JC is a 39 year old mountain biker, and a road cyclist from East Setauket N.Y. He is leaning more towards the mountain bike after a 2014 crash in a road race left him with a broken clavicle. He has been racing on and off for a few years seeing a best finish last year in the muddy tire race( 3rd in his age group) . He is looking forward to this season and competing in the Head for The Hills race and the stewart 45. The stewart 45 proved to be quite the challenge. This was his first time racing anything longer than 12 miles. His first lap of the race gave him a flat tire and then almost six hours later (yes 6!!!!) he finished. He Says he has a bone to pick with that race, but we will see. Yes JC is not the fastest rider on the team … ok he is probably the slowest on the team but he seems to be a good guy so they let him hang out with them. At 200 lbs (he says 190) he may be the heaviest member of the team. He says it helps him on the down hills.
Like many of us JC is struggling to find a balance between being a family man, cyclist, car guy and working overtime to fund it all. With the recent arrival of his second daughter JC is looking forward to a season of good riding , when he can, but not expecting too much in the way of race results. He says his main goal is to get out there more and to enjoy riding whether it be on the road, mountain, with his girls or with the great guys of Paniagua cycling.
